Re: VT Robbed
You didn't read through my statement enough. Only Ivy League teams and those who have moved up from D2 do not make postseason play. So thats roughly 320+ teams that play in the postseason for basketball. 94% in basketball is a lot higher than 54% of the teams making postseason play in football.

you can't count the conference tournaments as being part of the NCAA tournament because in the end you still have to choose the 34 best teams to get the at-large bids...and those in the at-large did not win their conference tournament but can still get in
one of you guys said that no one who doesn't win their conference tournament has an argument for not being in the tournament....so how about we just leave out Georgetown and Duke...would they have an argument?
VT needed to beat Clemson at the end of the year to solidify a spot, it didn't happen so we were at the hands of committee, which we knew did not have a single ACC representative (how the best conference doesn't get a say in who goes to the tournament is beyond me) but if you guys really truly don't think VT would beat at least half the teams who did get bids then, as Coach Greenberg said "you're certifiably insane"
-
Re: VT Robbed
The way I see it, conference tournaments are "post season" play...that is every teams guaranteed chance to get in on a chance to win the national championship...In football, how many teams have a chance to play for a national championship at the end of the regular season???...2 maybe 3...so that argument has no merit. So, damn right conference tournaments are post season play.
-
Re: VT Robbed
I didn't say the NCAA tourney man. I said postseason play. Lets look at it another way then. In football 2 teams get to play for the national championship. In basketball 65 teams get to. 2/119 = .02% get a chance at the national title. 65/320= 20% get the chance at the national title. Either way, basketball has better numbers than football for the chance at the national championship, but I do consider conference tourneys postseason play because if you win, you get to keep playing, and no one can turn you down.

Re: VT Robbed
That was the same thing I was saying...I wasn't aiming that at you stripes...I think we are making the same argument.

I knew what you was saying beast, I was really replying back to vthokie.

Re: VT Robbed
tech is where they should be.. the nit.... yeah grennberg said they should expand the tournment.. are u kidding me.. thats so stupid
-
Re: VT Robbed
I think VT and AZ St shouldve been in there but ohh well
-
Re: VT Robbed
where they should be? with that kind of remark you would think Carolina would have a better record than 2-2 against VT in the last 2 years, with that last second shot being one of them
please jared, don't get all high and mighty like VT is a bottom feeder in the conference
-
Re: VT Robbed
I meant VT should be in the tourney
-
Re: VT Robbed
auto qualifiers should be eliminated, if you dont take care of business in the regular season then you are [censored] out of luck, IMO
prime example....georgia, they luck out and make a run in the sec tourney and win it....for what? the right to be eliminated in the 1st round??
btw...i really thought VT was in
-
Re: VT Robbed
The way I look at it, if you can't take care of business in your conference tournament, you're out of luck. Every team that steps out on the floor during the tournaments knows that if they win they are in. Everyone has the same chance...if you can't rise to occassion, you may sit at home.
-
Re: VT Robbed
so in a conference where there are two top ten teams, you're pretty much out of luck or you have to play lights out
one thing is for sure...if Georgia is in the ACC they don't even make the NIT
-
Re: VT Robbed
There can only be one champion...and personally, I feel that the only teams that truly have a claim to be "deserving" are the ones who have the automatic bids. They sealed their bid with a win. Every team had the chance and those that failed are at the mercy of the committee. Sometimes a player or a fan just has to look themselves in the mirror and say "we had a chance and we blew it"...Really I don't see the argument. If VT had won the ACC tournament, they would be there. They didn't, and they got left out, and they don't have much of a case for whining.
-
Re: VT Robbed
If UGA was in the ACC and did what they did in the SEC tournament, the ACC would actually have 5. teams in...not 4 in and 10 whining..lol
-
Re: VT Robbed
Who's to say that if VT is in the SEC they make the NIT? Georgia got on a lucky run, but took care of business, and done it in tougher fashion than anyone else in recent memory has had to do by winning 2 games in one day, and beat 2 teams that qualified for the NCAA tourney.
-
Re: VT Robbed
One thing is for sure, VT can now concentrate on something they can actually win at....bass fishing. or maybe x-box 360.
-
Re: VT Robbed
Haha, you really don't watch the ACC much do you? It takes a miracle to win the ACC Tournament if your not a school from the state of North Carolina, two teams this decade have played for the national title (one winning it) without winning the ACC Tournament who are not from the state of NC. The year UNC won it all they didn't even win the ACC Tournament. I guess we could go back to the old days and play it at Reynolds Coliseum and just hand it to NC St every year, it's bad enough it's on lock down in Greensboro/Charlotte it's really not a fair system at all. 75% of the crowd is UNC/Duke when they play in the state of North Carolina. It's the farthest thing from a neutral site you'll ever see, I don't see how you can penalize teams for not winning in that environment.
-
Re: VT Robbed
What exactly do you call UGA winning the SEC ?
-
Re: VT Robbed
How was someone penalized for not winning it? When was the last time a non-NC school won the ACC tourney and where was it at?
-
Re: VT Robbed
if Georgia is in the ACC they lose in the first round to Miami and no one ever hears from them
NCSU would beat Georgia like a drum...i dare someone to pick Georgia in their first round game, they should be in the play-in game
-
Re: VT Robbed
Keep on cryin'...it's entertainment.
-
Re: VT Robbed
I don't necessarily think theres a big difference from UGA and Miami. Neither are particularly good. Miami has a little better post play overall, but both rely alot on their star guards in McClinton and Gaines. Gaines is a hoss.
I don't think Georgia will win their first game. Heck, I don't think Miami will win their either. I also don't think VT would have won if faced up against Xavier. You have to make a case for 3-4 teams to be out to really make a way for VT to qualify according to most analyst.
-
Re: VT Robbed
Pretty sure it was 2004 when Maryland won it down in Greensboro, before that it was the 90's. Maryland went to back to back final fours in 01 and 02 and didn't even make the ACC Championship game either year. It's a miracle to win that thing if your not a Carolina school

Re: VT Robbed

Re: VT Robbed
Georgia lost to ETSU...by 18...argument over
-
Re: VT Robbed
I was waiting to through that out there myself Drew. ETSU beat just as many tourney teams as VT did this year.
-
Re: VT Robbed
And who exactly has VT beaten this year besides themselves??..lol
-
Re: VT Robbed
I think they shouldve been in, they didnt oh well...all these teams that fuss about it wouldve been lucky to make it to the second round...
-
Re: VT Robbed
-
Re: VT Robbed
had to beat somebody to finish 4th in the toughest conference in the nation
does Georgia's come-from-behind victory over Division 2's Augusta State count as a tourney win?
-
Re: VT Robbed
-
Re: VT Robbed
No, but UGA winning 3 games in 2 days puts them in over VT...so get over it.
-
Re: VT Robbed
yeah, it was 3 games in 4 days...which almost doubled their conference win total for the year
-
Re: VT Robbed
Thinking off the top of my head here but didn't a 6-10 acc team make the sweet 16 a few years back? FSU maybe?

Well one thing off the top of my head, it won't be VT doin it this year..lol...What I don't get is all the whining over a team that only beat 1 team in the top 50...didn't do that until last week..and because of that they didn't get in. If they can't do any better than that, why should they be in. Then, you guys say, well so and so got in just by winning their tournament...which is the object of the whole thing. I guess in the NCAA's everyone doesn't get a trophy just for showing up. Seems that idea is foreign to you guys. It's like this: In life there are winners and losers, and everyone doesn't get a trophy for participating.

Re: VT Robbed
What I wouldn't give if you were a board member when Auburn went undefeated and didn't win the title. FWIW, I never said one negative word about GA. A ten win acc team should make the tournament just like an undefeated sec team in football should play for the title.
-
Re: VT Robbed
You said the one word that would make the difference in this case...UNDEFEATED. If VT was undefeated, they'd be in...simple as that. AU has been undefeated twice in the past 15 years and didn't play for the NC either time. The best correlation to that for B-ball would be the TOP ACC team getting left out of the dance entirely. So, come again.
